I joined the ECE Dept. of the University of Toronto in August 2000 where my primary appointment is with the Communications Group , but I am also cross listed with the Electromagnetics Group . My primary area of research is in the physical layer of wireless communication systems and sensor networks. I am also interested in adaptive signal processing for radar systems. |

: Overview of my group's research goals, current and past work Adaptive processing in
the physical layer in communication systems : Exploiting
the spatial and temporal dimensions to improve the quality, capacity and
reliability of wireless communication systems. Enabling
cooperation for energy savings in wireless sensor and data reliability and/or
access-point networks. Signal processing for radar systems : The detection, identification and tracking of tactical targets in stressful interference environments using advanced signal processing techniques. Some specific problems we are working on are: · Precoding in multiuser downlink communications with a specific focus on practical, linear, schemes with limited feedback. · Energy efficiency and reliability in access-point and sensor networks with a specific focus on the practical schemes for node cooperation and analysis of cooperation schemes based on error control coding. · Robust adaptive processing for airborne surveillance radar in stressful interference conditions, especially non-homogeneous clutter conditions. · The use of waveform diversity in combination with widely distributed apertures for extremely accurate target detection and tracking; one application high frequency surface wave radar (HFSWR) and over-the-horizon radar (OTHR). · Signal processing techniques to detect concealed weapons using a noise radar · Modeling and design of radar techniques for Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (with Prof. Georgia Fotopoulos of Civil Engineering) |

· Keeping this little fella out of trouble. Oh! my god! There are two of them! · Squash · Talking about loosing weight · Hiking, camping, reading (esp. the New York Times and the Economist) · Cricket! I nearly always begin my day with a quick look at the latest scores, though my son has been pushing me into hockey and basketball. |
